DEE ATKINSON and HARRISON
Dee Atkinson & Harrison, like many other private firms are keeping pace with the changes of the 21st Century and in doing so can look back to the latter part of the 19th Century when the firm was established. In 1885 Francis Cook, a tenant farming on the renowned Sledmere Estate, took up his gavel to practice as an agricultural Auctioneer & Valuer. The records of that year record the value of a Shorthorn cow as £12, a cart horse £13, wheat £7.50 per ton and a gallon of whiskey as 12/6 (62.5p).The Dee connection came about around the turn of the Century when Frank Dee married the founders’ daughter and in 1933 Peter Atkinson’s father, himself a farmer and agricultural valuer, decided that his son should seek another occupation.Until 1945 the firm was involved almost entirely in agricultural sales and valuations, selling in both Driffield & Malton cattle markets; after this time an office was established in Driffield, we became involved in residential estate agency and in 1964 we opened a Fine Art Saleroom.
